How to Make a Skirt Quickly

Materials:
- fabric
- elastic
- thread
- measuring tape
- scissors or rotary cutter
- elastic threader or safety pin
Cut Fabric and Elastic
Measure around the waist and how long you would like the skirt to be. Complete the following calculations and use these to cut your fabric and elastic.- waist x 3 = width of fabric
- length of skirt + 3.5 inches = length of fabric
- waist - 1 inch = elastic length
Align and Sew the Seam
Fold your fabric with right sides facing each other and stitch down the edge. Use a zig-zag stitch as well to reinforce it. You can use a Serger too.
Create the Elastic Casing
Place the seam in the center and choose the direction of your fabric. Fold about one quarter of an inch of the top edge toward the wrong side and press. Fold and press once more, leaving enough space for the elastic to go through. Double-fold and press the bottom edge to prepare the hem. Keep in mind how long you would like the skirt to be.
Stitch the Hem and the Casing
Use a straight stitch for the hem. Do the same with the elastic casing, but this time leave an opening. Insert the elastic through it with a threader or safety pin. The ends of the elastic should meet.Join the Elastic and Finish the Waist
Overlap the elastic by about an inch and sew it together. Stitch the casing opening and around the hem.Finish the Skirt
